My name is Steve Plivelich. I began my career as an independent finish carpenter and cabinet maker. Always a history buff, I love older homes with their rich architectural details.
I’ve been a woodworker since I was a little boy. Using my father’s plane and draw knife, I put my first beveled edge on a piece of wood without even realizing what I was doing. I found that experience incredibly satisfying and inspiring.
I became fascinated with the construction of furniture at a young age. I was drawn to studying how drawers and doors fit together, the joinery and construction. I found lumber yards and hardware shops that sold different species of wood more fascinating than a candy store.
Throughout my life I have enjoyed studying the qualities of the wood. An understanding of wood grain movement, shape, finish, and hardness help define a furniture makers abilities.
Living in the 21st century we have 100s of years of outstanding furniture makers and their end products to study. Building furniture throughout my life, I have personally explored several furniture styles including Shaker, Danish Modern, Early America, Arts and Crafts and my top inspiration – Greene & Greene.
With my wife and my Golden Retriever, I live and work in Hudson, Ohio. Once the epicenter of the Connecticut Western Reserve, Hudson is an idyllic town with inspiring architecture and homes.
I take 4 things very seriously- my wife, my golden, my cross country skiing and my furniture.
